FTMO, before you pay

The category anchor — and the firm whose funded-stage rules differ most from its evaluation rules. The $100K 2-Step ticket is €540; the expected fees per buyer who ever receives a payout run to roughly €7,700 at the published base rates.

Facts checked October 22, 2026

FTMO sells a simulated evaluation in two shapes. The 2-Step (10% then 5% targets, 5% daily loss, 10% static maximum loss) is the classic product, sold in euros from Prague; US residents are routed to a separate product sold with OANDA. The 1-Step charges more for fewer phases and adds the rule beginners miss: a Best Day cap of 50% — one day may not account for more than half your total profit — on an end-of-day trailing maximum loss. An Instant Account line was added in October 2026; its prices move too fast for this site's dated discipline, so it is documented here but kept out of the checker rather than guessed at.

What the account is — and is not

FTMO's own terms state it plainly: the challenge is simulated at every stage ("no actual trading is taking place"), and the challenge service is not regulated by the Czech National Bank — customers receive no regulatory protection on the product itself. In December 2025 FTMO completed its purchase of OANDA, a regulated broker group; that acquisition does not change the legal nature of the challenge you are buying. What you are buying is a test, a contract, and a payout policy.

The arithmetic at the published rates

At the FPFX base rates (14% of buyers reach funded, ~45% of those ever paid), the €540 ticket on the 100K 2-Step implies about €3,860 in expected fees to reach the funded stage and about €7,700 in fees per buyer who ever receives a payout — against an average first payout near $3,200 to the trader on that size. That is dataset arithmetic about the average buyer, not a prediction about you; the checker re-runs it with your declared profile and your style.

The trap in this firm's fine print

  • News trading is unrestricted during the evaluation — and opening or closing within ±2 minutes of a listed release on a funded Standard account can mean termination. The style that passes the test can be voided by the job.
  • Weekend holding is likewise restricted only at the funded stage.
  • The 2-Step fee comes back only with your first payout withdrawal; the 1-Step fee never comes back.
  • FTMO's terms (clauses 7.3–7.9) let the firm, at its own discretion, void trades and forfeit rewards it deems gambling-like — a clause every grid, martingale and one-big-day style should read before paying.
